Made in the A.M. - One Direction

Before you read this review, you should know my love and respect for these boys knows no bounds. That's mostly because I cannot believe what lovely people and grounded individuals they all still are - I could probably write an essay about this topic alone, but I digress. We haven't got all day, right? This is going to be a long one anyways.

Yes, their first two records (Up All Night and Take Me Home) were exactly what you'd expect from a boyband - this doesn't mean that they're bad records, because they're not, it's just not the music I usually enjoy. (You will never catch me not dramatically lip-syncing to Tell Me A Lie however, what a tune!) Then Midnight Memories rolled around and they started to do some songwriting themselves, and man did that change their sound. Between that album and last year's FOUR, I could never make up my mind which one I liked more. I still can't, so I won't. The thing is, Made in the A.M. might have just taken the crown anyways ...

Sounds Good Feels Good - 5 Seconds of Summer

Sounds Good Feels Good - 5 Seconds of Summer

Do you guys remember my "emokid" playlist? The one where I chucked in all the songs that my 14-year-old self listended to permanently? Well guess what, 5 Seconds of Summer just came out with a record that sounds like it should have been released in 2005. I mean that in the absolute best way possible!

Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro Palette

Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro Palette Review Swatches

There comes a time in every girl's life where she has to admit to herself that she owns enough eyeshadow palettes. And even though I already did that, and I know that I don't need this many eyeshadow palettes ... I went ahead and ordered two more by Makeup Revolution. Deep sighs. I'm weak. Then again, I always lusted after the Lorac Pro palette which is just very hard to come by in Europe, so when I saw that Makeup Revolution had a dupe, I knew it was inevitable!

Autumn Lipsticks - MAC Instigator & Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry

Autumn Lipsticks - MAC Instigator & Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry

Autumn – the favourite season of every beauty blogger and tumblr hipster girl there ever was, is and will be – is here, people! I actually just edited an article about why the human brain likes Autum so much for work, it's pretty interesting. (It's because our brain likes the temperature because it's neither too hot or too cold so it has time to enjoy life and doesn't have to warm/cool down our body. Plus it also likes change, but only change that is already familiar – so since the seasons change regularly, our brain is pretty chuffed with that. Cool stuff, right?) ... Anyways, this post is about lipsticks. Dark lipsticks, to be precise!

MAC "In Control" Pro Longwear Lip Pencil

MAC Pro Longwear Pencil "In Control"

It's no secret that I usually turn to MAC when I'm looking for a particular lip colour. Usually I stick with the lipsticks, but I also own two of their regular lip pencils, Spice and Heroine. Spice is one of these 90ies nude shades that's great under a bunch of nude lipsticks (I use it either on its own or in combination with MAC's Kinda Sexy lipstick), and Heroine I bought back when the Heroine lipstick was not part of the permanent range yet. I like the general formula – even though it's pretty dry. The pro longwear formula kicks it up a few notches, however.

Crosseyed Heart - Keith Richards

I don't even know where to start when it comes to Keith Richards. To me, he's rock'n'roll personified, a pirate that accidentally stumbled into a band called the Rolling Stones and started to make great music. His stage persona is so fascinating to me - I aspire to become at least half as cool as Keith Richards is. Probably not gonna happen.
Years ago, when I first saw the Stones' concert/documentary Shine A Light, I became absolutely obsessed with Keith's performance of "You Got the Silver". I have so much love for this song and especially this performance, it's hard to put it into words. I was over the moon when I got the chance to see that song performed live when I saw the Rolling Stones on their 14 On Fire Tour last year in Vienna.

Makeup Revolution Sugar and Spice Ultimate Blush Palette

Makeup Revolution Sugar and Spice Ultimate Blush Palette

I don't quite remember when I first heard of Makeup Revolution, but I'm pretty sure it was around the time they came out with their rip-off of the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I had always liked the look of the Naked 3, but being the reasonable and responsible adult that I am (haha, yeah, sure) I didn't want to spend money on yet another Urban Decay eyeshadow palette. I own the Naked 2 and Vice 3 and I don't even want to add up the money I spent on those two in my head ... Long story short: Last time I was in London (July 30th - August 2nd, good times), my friends and I visited Richmond park where all the cute bambis live. Richmond is super cute, and there's also a very well-stocked Superdrug there. I guess you can all imagine my excitement when I found myself in front of the Makeup Revolution shelf.

How to shop for high end makeup

How to shop for high end makeup

I don't know what exactly it is that makes a grown woman think "Oh, I should totally spend 35€ on a lipstick, that sounds like a great investment!" - fact is, it happens to me too. (Then again, this is coming from the same person that started to invest in chelsea boots just because she likes how they look on Harry Styles.) The thing is, if you're going to spend a lot of money on a high end makeup item, there's a few things you should consider before blowing your hard-earned money on items you won't use.

Is this thing still on ... ?

Long time, no see!

I have no excuse whatsoever for my blogging hiatus - my archive tells me I last posted in the beginning of June. So it's been four months, and to be quite honest I only started to miss it in the past few weeks. But that's the nice thing about hobbies - you can take breaks whenever you want to and come back to them when you feel like it.

Where have I been?

At work, mostly! Adjusting to adult life is hard, man. I started my first full-time job in middle of May - so obviously I have a lot less spare time on my hands now. I don't quite know what I expected, but juggling work, getting enough sleep, seeing my friends regularly and an ever-growing obsession with the world's shadiest boyband (don't ask, I don't know wtf is going on either) is not as easy as I thought it would be. Additionally, what I do at my job is kind of similar to blogging (just not as much fun, lol), so I really had no desire to the "same" stuff in my free time as well.

Why am I back?

Because I miss talking about makeup, mostly! I have been so out of touch with the beauty community, I haven't read a blog post about lipsticks in months! Today I opened my bloglovin' feed and there were about a thousand unread posts (kind of expected it to be even more, but you get the drift). I also miss writing in my favourite language, and I miss gushing about music I enjoy. And at the end of the day, I missed my hobby that brought me so much joy over the past year. So that's that.

What's going to happen?

Nobody knows! Right now I'm really excited about getting into the swing of things again, and the first thing I want to do is remodel the whole layout. Don't know when that's going to happen (I might even start tonight, but who knows), but it's definitely on top of my agenda. I have made no plans about a posting schedule or anything whatsoever, because truth to be told, I don't know if I could stick to that even if I wanted to.

Anything else?

Just happy to be back, really. I'll be quite surprised if any of you guys are still around to read this, if so - hi, thank you, hope you're doing well! I'll talk to you soon. :)

Review: Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

Review: Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

Things I'll probably never buy regardless of the money in my bank account: expensive mascara. I really don't understand the concept, to be honest. We go through mascara so fast, theoretically we should throw them away every three months because of hygiene. For that reason alone, I don't really see myself spending obscene amounts of money for a little tube of mascara anytime soon. I'm a big fan of cheap drugstore mascaras that actually do the job, and even though I have my favourites - Catrice Glamour Doll, for example - I'm always open to try new ones. So here's a review of my newest purchase, the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

MAC Heroine Lipliner & MAC Flat Out Fabulous Lipstick

MAC Heroine Lipliner and Flat Out Fabulous Lipstick Lip Swatches

This past week, the weather totally sucked. It's the end of May, and all we get in Austria right now is a lot of clouds, grey skies and rain. Meh. (Which is super great for my allergies though, I feel great! Still ...)
Anyways, to counteract the dull weather, I've been very into wearing the brightest lipsticks I can find in my collection. And since I have quite a few of the MAC Retromatte lipsticks but feel like I'm not using them enough, I made it my mission to incorporate them more into my daily makeup!

The Fake Leather Backpack

When I told my friends that I was going to visit Barcelona, my friend Eva told me about Misako, a shop that sells amazing bags for a very reasonable price. My mum and I are both suckers for a pretty handbag, so obviously when we passed a Misako store in the gothic quarter of Barcelona, we had to step inside! I've been looking for a nice, (fake) leather backpack for a while now, and then I saw this beauty ...

Sephora Cream Lip Stains in 01 Always Red & 03 Strawberry Kissed

Review Sephora Cream Lip Stains in 01 Always Red & 03 Strawberry Kissed

I'm finally back with a regular beauty review! Yay! Let's get to business ...
While I was in Barcelona, I obviously had to visit a Sephora during my stay. Before going, I actually thought I'd probably spend a shitload of money on NARS and all the other pretty things, but then I kind of didn't. I always get pretty overwhelmed when shops are too big and there's too many displays to look at, so I tend to stick to the things I know/ have seen before. The Sephora Cream Lip Stains have been making the rounds on both YouTube and blogs, and as they are super-matte, opaque and bright lip colours, I obviously had to try them.

Barcelona in Pictures - Part 2

So here's part 2 of my Barcelona in Pictures posts - see the first one here. The pictures were all taken chronologically by the way, since I wanted to recreate our trip as authentically as possible, if that makes sense.

Here you see the rest of what we were up to last Wednesday: we visited the Sagrada Familia, strolled through the Gothic quarter again towards the evening and set down in front of La Catedral and enjoyed some ice cream and live music. It was the most beautiful end for the day, since the guy playing picked out a lot of perfectly sentimental songs that I really enjoy, and I fangirled very hard when he started playing David Bowie's Space Oddity. Perfection!

I didn't take any pictures on my camera on Thursday, because we spent the first half of the day relaxing at the beach. I actually went swimming into the sea, but it was still pretty cold unfortunately ... didn't stop me from being stupid and not reapplying my SPF when I napped a bit at the beach. Hey there, sunburn! Don't do that, kids.

Friday was our last day, and our main mission was visiting the Tibidabo, which is a mountain overlooking Barcelona, hence giving you a wonderful view of the whole city. Little did we know that on top of the mountain, there is actually a whole amusement park with carousels and a ferris wheel! Apart from that, there's obviously also a church - it's called Sagrat Cor, googled it - which was also pretty impressive. I'm not a religious person, but I can definitely appreciate beautiful architecture. I liked how it wasn't full of gold and marble on the inside, but pretty simple and clean-looking, with the most beautiful mosaic window above the organ.

We spent the better part of the day on top of mount Tibidabo, and after that we unfortunately only had a bit of time left, so we explored a bit more of Barri Góthico again. There was so much more we wanted to see, but 4 days just weren't quite enough unfortunately!

I love how Barcelona is a fairly modern city (compared to other Spanish cities, anyways) that combines an urban atmosphere with beaches and cocktail bars. All the people we encountered were absolutely lovely, the food was great, and there was a lot to see. Definitely a place I see myself visiting again sometime in the future!

Barcelona in Pictures - Part 1

My trip to Barcelona was just wonderful - beautiful weather, sunshine, and a new city to explore. Even though we had 4-ish days there, I actually wish we could have stayed longer. It feels like there were so many more sights we could have visited, but oh well ... those that we saw, we loved!

The pictures from above are from last Tuesday and Wednesday. We arrived on Tuesday, which was the only day where it was cloudy and not too warm. While we were waiting for our room to be ready, mum and I strolled around at the beach (it was only 200 metres away from our hotel!) and had some food. Around the Port Olympic, there are a lot of places to eat or enjoy a cocktail, so we actually went back there on Wednesday night to have a few drinks.

During the day on Wednesday, we did the typical tourist thing: we walked through Barri Gótic (the Gothic quarter, centre of the old city of Barcelona, which I can only recommend - what a beautiful place!), visited the Sagrada Familia and La Rambla (a very popular street in central Barcelona), including the market called La Bouqeria. The market is crammed with people, very colourful and you can buy just about any food you can think of - it's definitely a place you shouldn't miss.

I was also able to locate a Sephora, but I didn't go as wild in there as I originally planned. I only bought three things, two of the items being makeup. I'm sure about about it soon, so you'll see what I got!

Since I didn't want this post to become to crowded, I seperated the flood of pictures and made two seperate ones - part 2 should be up in a couple of days!

Update & Barcelona

Over the past few weeks, my posting schedule has been very sporadic. That annoys me, and I wish I could be more consistent, but I had a lot of other things on my mind lately. So I thought I'll put up another little life update post just so you all know I'm not dead - just busy. :)

April Favourites

April Favourites: Review - MAC Brave, MAC Fluidline Brow Gelcreme, KIKO Radiant Touch Creamy Stick Highlighter, KIKO Kiss Balms, Urban Decay Primer Potion Original

May the 4th be with you! The fact that it's Star Wars day and I'm only posting my April favourites should tell you something about how rubbish my posting schedule is at the moment ... But I have an update post coming your way on Wednesday that'll explain why I'm such a bad, bad blogger right now! But for now, let's get to my beauty favourites of the past month ...
